Olivia Ghafoerkhan grew up in a small town in north Florida. Because of scoliosis, she had to wear a back brace for two years, which earned her fun nicknames like "turtle". However, it also enhanced her love of reading. Instead of playing outside in the hot Florida sun (which is extra miserable when you're wearing a heavy plastic back brace) she would shelve books in the library. There she fell in love with poetry, and for many years after she'd torture her friends with poems that rhymed.
She received a BA in English from Florida State University, and a MFA in Writing for Teens and Young Adults from Hamline University. When she's not writing, she teaches at Northern Virginia Community College. She also enjoys going to the beach as much as possible, although the gulf coast of Florida will always be her favorite. Additionally, she often takes her kids hiking in nearby parks, or into Washington DC to visit museums and monuments. It is very weird to Olivia that her kids' favorite thing to do at the National Zoo is to pet the cow...she grew up next to a cow field. She enjoys Bollywood movies, Irish/Celtic rock music, movies that make her laugh, and books that make her cry... okay, she really enjoys all books. Nowadays she only uses her awesome rhyming skills to make up songs to annoy her kids and her husband.
